Before your appointment

How to prepare for an ultrasound

Correct preparation can help the sonographer obtain the images needed for your examination. Your individual appointment instructions always take precedence over general information online.

01

Check your examination

Use the exact examination written on your referral or appointment information. Preparation differs between abdominal, pelvic, obstetric, renal, bladder and vascular ultrasound.

02

Medication and medical conditions

Do not stop or alter medication unless an appropriate healthcare professional has told you to. Contact KMI before travelling if you are diabetic, pregnant, unable to fast or unable to maintain a full bladder.

03

For every appointment

Wear comfortable, loose clothing. Arrive 15 minutes early and bring your referral, Medicare card and relevant prior imaging. Call 08 9021 5044 if your instructions are missing or unclear.

Important

Your individual referral and appointment instructions take precedence. Do not stop or change medication unless authorised by an appropriate healthcare professional. Call KMI if you are unsure.
